Late Permian radiolarians were detected from siliceous mudstone of the lower part of the Dalong Formation at the Pingdingshan section in the Chaohu area, Anhui Province, China. Abundant spheroidal radiolarians with small amount of Albaillellaria, Entactinaria and stauraxon Spumellaria are found. Albaillellaria contain Albaillella sp. cf. A. xiaodongensis, Follicucullus sp. cf. Fo. orthogonus, Fo. porrectus, Fo. spp. and so on. These radiolarians indicate that the lower part of the Dalong Formation in this area may be correlated with the Fo. charveti-A. yamakitai (=Fo. charveti-Fo. bipartitus) assemblage zone. The age of the lower part of the Dalong Formation in the Chaohu area is, therefore, probably Wujiapingian (early Late Permian), although the Dalong Formation has been commonly considered to be Changxingian (late Late Permian). It indicates relatively rapid deposition of the Yinping and Longtan Formations.
