THE WAVEFORM OF ATMOSPHERICS IN THE DAYTIME
KIMPARA, Atsushi
open access
The present paper represents the results of observations of the waveform of atmospherics in the daytime conducted at Iwatsuki Station, near Tokyo, from 1940 to 1944. The classification of waveforms was derived and the behaviour of each variety studied in relation to the discharge mechanism of lightning flashes. They are leader stroke type, return streamer type, multiple stroke type and cloud discharge type. It is shown that the waveforms taken in the daytime cannot be explained by the reflexion theory but interpreted with ease by the discharge mechanism.
