We examined the effectiveness of a remote instruction system (HABIT System, Suzuken, Nagoya) in 5 obese women (age 51.2 ± 8.7 years, BMI 30 ± 3.9 kg/m^2, mean ± SD). They all participated in a body weight reduction program and used this system for about 10 months after the program. Three out of 5 showed increases in physical activity, assessed by steps/day, and energy intake from snacks was reduced in all participants. Body weight was reduced from 72.6 ± 14.9 kg to 69.3 ± 18.1 kg, which was not statistically significant (P=0.13). There was a significant relationship between body weight reduction and total time spent in brisk walking per eay (r=0.901, P<0.05). This result is probably because moderate exercise, such as brisk walking, may affect body weight reduction. Four (one did not answer) reported that this remote instruction system motivated self-control in daily life. Our result suggest the possibility that this remote instruction system may be useful in body weight control.
