However, the nonlinear responses of structures are dependent on the periodic characteristics of input earthquake motions so that the results using the equal energy assumption or equal displacement assumption are not sometimes so accurate. In this study, we propose a metohd that the elasto-plastic maximum displacement of structures is estimated using the natural-period-dependent spectrum intensity(SI). In order to evaluate the accuracy of the proposed estimation method of the maximum response displacement, the results of the nonlinear dynamic analyses using SDOF model with far-field and near-field earthquake motions are used. The natural-period-dependent SI is a mean value taking account of the periodic characteristics of input earthquake motions and has a strong correlation with the nonlinear response of stuctures.
