In order to investigate the effect of heating and cooling process on the material properties of welded part of structural steel (SM490YA), a series of experiments was carried out. The heating under A1 transformation point (600℃) did not affect the material properties of weld metal, HAZ and base metal regardless of cooling process. The heating over A3 transformation point (900℃) and the water cooling from it caused the hardening and the reduction of Charpy absorbed energy. The degree of them was larger in the base metal rather than in the weld metal because it depended on the amount of carbon.
