This is a preliminary report on whistlers observed in Japan during 3rd IGY from 1st July, 1957 to 30th June, 1958. The author discribes the diurnal and seasonal variations in whistler observations as follows 1. Whistlers are mainly found at night, showing maximum occurrence at 3-4 hours before local sunrise and after local sunset. 2. General seasonal variations are explained by thunderstorms in the distances less than 500 km from the observatory or from its conjugate point in the other hemisphere. 3. Second maximum observed simultaneously in Japan and in Australia in September, 1958 is explained by active geomagnetic disturbances.
