The purpose of this study was to clarify physical and psychological conditions before the meet and the relationship between physical and psychological conditions before the meet and their personality. Subjects were 223 athletes (144 males and 80 females) who were members of Aichi prefecture team for National Athletic Meetings in 1990. Mean age of subjects was 23.08 years. Two questionnaire were administered to subjects, one was designed to assess the physiological and psychological conditions before the meet, called PAMCI (Pre Athletic Meetings Conditioning Inventory), and the other was named SPI (SHIMODA-shiki Personality Inventory) to assess the personality. The results were as follows: 1) Almost athletes had reported many physical changes before the meet, in such categories as Digestive tract, Musculoskeletal system, Thinness and fat, Respiratory system, and Habit. This tendency was marked in female. 2) The scores of psychological conditions before the meet were high in such scales as Tension and Confusion. 3) These physical and psychological conditions appeared from about one month before. It was argued that these conditions would influence the athletic performance. 4) The athletes who showed higher scores of psychological conditions had more changes in physiological condition. 5) The athletes who had higher scores on Nervous and Hysterical scale, showed many changes in physiological condition before the meet. 6) The athletes who had higher scores on all scales except Syntonic scale showed higher score of psychological condition before the meet.
