Results indicated that university students in South Korea are likely to feel that the use of kinship terms toward their seniors is appropriate whereas the use of family or given name is not. Decision tree analysis indicated that relational distance, followed by speaker’s gender, were the most influential factors in determining the appropriateness of use of kinship terms. In contrast, situation (lecture or chatting), followed by distance, were the most influential factors in determining the appropriateness of use of family or given name.
