From these data we have determined CHIME (Chemical Th-U-total Pb Isochron Method) ages for monazites and zircons (Suzuki and Adachi, 1994). The age data have provided evidence on (1) the presence of recycled Precambrian materials in the protolith of paragneisses, (2) the late Paleozoic-early Mesozoic metamorphism of the Hida gneiss, (3) the significant differences of the Hida gneisses between Oki-Dogo Island and central Hida terrane, and (4) the correlation of basement gneisses in the Japanese Islands and the Korean Peninsula.
