The key concept of the adult attachment theory is the internal working models of attachment, which is a generalized and abstracted representation of the experiences in attachment relationships. The internal working models of attachment consists of two dimensions, "Anxiety" and "Avoidance". Although there are few studies on adult attachment behaviors, some studies were conducted in laboratory settings and/or naturalistic observations. These studies have revealed that people who were high on "Avoidance" avoid intimate physical contact when they were under stressful conditions. In this study, the personal space was measured as an index of adult attachment behaviors. Participants were 26 vocational school students. The personal space was measured in 16 conditions: 2 (approaching person; from participants or from their partners) x 2 (approaching speed; fast or slowly) x 4 (approaching direction; from front, back, left, or right). According to previous studies, highly avoidant people do not give and seek support to their partners, it was hypothesized that highly avoidant participants would show large personal spaces. That is, highly avoidant participants would (1) stop their approach to their partners soon, and (2) stop their partners' approach before they come close to. Results of ANOVA indicated that (1) "Avoidance" did not affect the size of the personal space when participants approached their partners, and (2) highly avoidant participants showed smaller size of the personal space when they were approached by their partners. The former result did not support hypothesis 1 and the latter one was contrary to the hypothesis 2. Even though this study contains a few deficits and further studies are needed, it is meaningful for this study to examine the adult attachment behaviors with a simple experimental method.}, pages = {71--76}, title = {アタッチメントは対人行動にどのように反映されるのか : パーソナルスペースによる検討}, volume = {55}, year = {2009} }
