Especially after World War II, uranium mining, nuclear waste and weapons testing in this area posed a serious threat to the water and the health of the Lakota people as well as local residents. This paper discusses how the environmental coalition between Native Americans and non-Indian ranchers/farmers tried to defend their lands against the projects of multinational corporations and governments in the late 1970s and 1980s.
