This species belong to Bromeliaceae and is distributed on Andes between 3,200m to 4,500m above sea level with great size of foliage and inflorescence. The plant grows a thick and erect trunk that produces hundreds clumps of thorny leaves. At the top of the center it appears a dense blossom stalk that can reach a height of 6 to 7m. Investigated site is located at Carpa area on Huascaran National Park in Peru.
