Although the concept was defined almost 75 years ago, it has never before been scientifically investigated. In this study, 18 undergraduates, who expected to have an "ego-experience", participated in individual semistructured interviews. The results were as follows. (1) vivid "ego-experiences" are reported. And 16undergraduates reported having similar and vivid "ego-experiences". (2) "Ego-experiences" were described as comprising questions about one's existence along with a sense of disharmony with oneself, and as comprising consciousness about oneself.
