Although the secondary grade school (post-primary school) consisted of middle school for boys, girls' high school and technical or commercial school, only the former carried the secondary education. After the 2nd World War, as the result of the great educational reform the secondary education was composed of lower and upper secondary education, the former changed into the compulsory education, and the latter was transformed into the culminal education. But in 1955, the ministry of education introduced the preparatory course for higher education into the curriculum of upper secondary education.
