Husbands are responsible for all household needs like food, shelter and clothes, while wives are not expected to contribute economically to household. Many women are eager to earn for the purpose of ‘assisting their husbands’, however, the married women in reality, give priority to their domestic work and childcare over their economic activities, and seem to be reluctant to expand their economic activities. In this paper, I would like to examine the reason why married women want to earn by own and their use of income from the perspective of gender roles, then to reveal the meaning of women’s income for fulfilling household needs. The research found that women do not intend to provide household needs by own income only. Instead, they assist their husbands to fulfill their responsibility for household needs by lending women’s income to their husbands; consequently a part of husbands’ income is surely used for household needs.
