As swear words are a part of language, it goes without saying that these can be used as one portal to investigating the non-material culture of a community. This article examines how the concept of ‘phallus’ can be used as an indicator of concepts of ‘masculinity’ in a culture, and how ideas of both of these appear in sexual swear words. This article will focus on why Japanese language does not possess the same sexual swear words that hint violating a man or the women in his family, as appears in many languages in the Middle East(e. g. Arabic, Persian, Turkish) and Mediterranean regions(e. g.
