The curricula of vocational schools and the curricula in companies overlap more and more. The term knowledge pertaining to action (Handlungswissen) stresses that this very convergence of the curricula of schools and companies encourages similarities with differing concentrations. Indeed it is the similarities with differing concentrations which achieves a whole and complete concept of vocational education. For the vocational schools the new curricula of learning fields allows a modern way of teaching vocational theory in connection with learning in the company. Learning fields describe complex thematic units with interwoven contents arising from vocational fields. Learning fields encourage action oriented learning.
