Symposium of this kind is held every year generally as an opportunity for users' meeting to report their results in utilizing the age-measurement facilities of the Center for Chronological Research (CCR), Nagoya University. In the symposium, the status reports of the AMS and EPMA systems were delivered firstly. Then, two reports were presented as the results of the program of the innovation of new technology and research fur young scientists. Three special lectures were presented at the symposium: the first was a memorial talk on the CHIME dating method established by a geology group at Nagoya University, given by Prof. Kazuhiro Suzuki of the CCR, Nagoya University. The second was a lecture given by Prof. Mineo Imamura, an Emeritus Professor of National Museum of Japanese History, entitled \"High precision dating method applied in archeology and its prospects\". The third was a talk about the excavation program conducted at the graveyard sites in Lebanon, entitled \"The conservation project of underground tomb with wall painting in Burj al Shamali, Tyre, Lebanon\", by Prof. Yoichi Nishiyama of Nara University. The lectures were quite impressive and contained important applications concerned with age measurements, and were quite suggestive in developing new applications in this area. Totally 26 reports were presented as contribution papers concerning the results on applications of the AMS as well as EPMA systems of the CCR. The fields of application are: study on solar activity based on l4C concentrations of tree rings; environmental applications of 14C tracer; geochemical analysis of deep sea water samples surrounding calcium carbonate rocks; geological applications of 14C dating; l4C dating application to cultural properties and archeological samples; studies on 14C calibration with Japanese wood; technical developments of sample preparation for l4C measurements; study on the source of Pb contained in the aerosol preserved in the lake sediment; measurements of U-Th-Pb ages for monazite from geological rock samples in the Himalaya Mountains and near-by regions; technical study on CHIME dating for sub-micron sized samples.
