A longitudinal study at a 2-week interval was conducted to 35 female participants. In the first session, the participants were asked to assume one person they disliked, to describe interpersonal motivation to the person (their descriptions were classified into three categories : \"Approach\", \"Avoidance\", and \"Maintenance\"), and to evaluate their negative interpersonal affect to the target person. In the second session conducted two weeks later, negative interpersonal affect was rated by means of the same procedure in the first session. The participants also reported affective fluctuation (better, worth, or no change) and a reason for that variability. A 4 (interpersonal affect)×3 (interpersonal motivation) ANOVA was performed, and it indicated nonsignificant main and interaction effects, although the overall tendency implied that negative interpersonal affect for the \"Approach\" group tended to decreased, while that was likely to increased for the in \"Avoidance\" group in the second session. These findings suggest that interpersonal motivation influence on negative interpersonal affective modification.
