 note = {There are many scales to measure loneliness such as UCLA Loneliness Scale, though they are almost measures of the extent to which a person feel lonely. But taking account of what situations are recognized as lonely by a person is important to measure how lonely a person feel, because situations one feels lonely vary with the individual. The purpose of this study was to construct a scale to measure the "View of Loneliness" i. e., what situations are considered lonely by a person. For this purpose, we made item pool consisted of 191 items concerned to the view of loneliness and 56 items were kept finally. Male (n=113) and female (n=410) students in college or vocational school answered those items together with LSO, UCLA, and IOS or NPI-S. Factor analysis was conducted on responses to 56 items, and constructed four subscales of View of Loneliness Scale : loneliness from lack of interpersonal relations, loneliness from taking note of one's own self, loneliness from estrangement or deviation from groups, and loneliness from an absence of accompanying persons. These subscales correlated positively each other. Comparisons of means between subscales revealed that "lack of interpersonal relation" was considered lonelier, although "absence of accompanying persons" was not very. To examine relationships between the view of loneliness and the extent and quality of loneliness, we compared our new scale with other established loneliness scales. No high correlation between new scale and old ones suggest that a person who considers many situations lonely were not necessarily lonely.
