To accomplish this research objective, interviews were conducted. The interviews were taken place in association with an Indiana Japanese Language school where approximately three hundred Japanese children attended every Saturday in 1999. Interviewees were of the following : children who go to Indiana Japanese language schools as well as their Japanese school teachers, local public school teachers, and parents. The overall similarity found was that almost all of them go to American public schools from Monday through Friday. However, ESL (English as a Second Language) education services for the children at the public schools and the support that they receive at home varied tremendously. Through the interviews, the authors of this project found that the environment surrounding the children seemed influential as to whether or not they can adapt to the different cultural surroundings and society.
