Test specimens were coated with A, B, C, and I-paint systems, which are common paint coating systems for steel bridges in Japan, and they were prepared with three different corner geometries: a square corner (E0), a 45-degree beveled corner with 1 mm long sides (E1), and a rounded corner with a radius of 2 mm (R2). Coating film thicknesses at corners were measured to show that the corner geometry had a significant effect on the coating film thickness at a corner and that R2 resulted in the largest thickness among the three corner geometries. The combined cyclic corrosion test showed that R2 specimens had much larger corrosion resistance than E0 specimens for the A-paint system.
