 note = {The paper will examine the developments of pluralism in Japanese astronomical texts of the second half of the 19th century. The idea of the plurality of worlds in the 18th and 19th century European astronomy was commonly seen in Japanese astronomical books, most of them were translations of European text books. However, the idea was not introduced to Japan in the period of modernisation. Pluralistic traditions can be traced back to the 18th century Japanese astronomy, especially in the writings of Shizuki Tadao and Yoshio Josan. These evidences suggest that pluralistic views had common ground both in the west and the east in the early modern and modern period.},
