A longitudinal study of 241 male and female university or nursing school freshmen was conducted for a three-week interval at the beginning of a school year. During two sessions, the participants were asked to focus on a target person in order to rate motivation and experience factors towards the person as well as personality traits. A multiple regression analysis was performed. The evidence showed that regarding motivation and experience factors, the more the relationship was estimated important, the higher the increase of \"hatred/incompatibility\". And, the higher the \"motive for maintenance\" was rated, the more \"threat\" increased.
