 note = {This paper gives the overview of the development of the idea of the plurality of worlds in early modern Europe from the 16th century to the 18th century. It treats the relationships between the view and the establishment of modern astronomy by Copernicus, Galileo, Kepler and Newton. It examines the reason of the spread of the view in the early modern intellectual world and suggests that modern astronomical pluralism can be seen as the revival of pluralism in the ancient and the middle age, based upon the achievement of modern science. It also points out that the framework of modern pluralism, including astronomical pluralism and magical pluralism, has already appeared in the docta ignorantia of Nicolaus Cusanus.},
