In Study 1, 205 students responded to 20 items which were selected from existing empathy measures and other scales (Human Relation Directedness and SDS). The results of factor analysis revealed the following two factors: 1) emotional empathy, and 2) cognitive empathy. These factors demonstrated adequate reliability and validity. In Study 2, 270 students responded to 15 items used in Study 1 along with other scales (HNS, Internal Other-Consciousness and SDS).
