First, the methods and effects of small group learning were reviewed. Second, the meaning of the instruction was theoretically considered in the light of two perspectives. One was the problem of small group learning, the other was the importance of children's interaction in the learning. According to recent research, the interaction was important to academic achievement, however, not every child participated actively in the learning. It was suggested that instruction was essential for effective small group learning.
