The typical condition covered by Biopsychosocial medicine seems to be featured as the gap between illness and disease. It will be unavoidable to face the gap between disease on which doctors usually focus and illness with which patients are experiencing. The author discussed about themiscommunication between doctors and patients caused by this gap. The endeavor to recognize and overcome the gap will be regarded as 'patient-centered medicine'. In Japan, as the importance of patient-centered medicine has been stressed recently, the author considers Biopsychosocial medicine would be in the most appropriate position to promote it. There are various undergraduate educational curricula in Japan for teaching Biopsychosocial medicine, the author proposed two additional useful curricular examples. One is the co-work with medical anthropology from the point of \"learning cultural difference\". The other is the learning about empathy. The ability of healthcare providers to show empathy to patients is a principal part of communication skills. According to the systematic review of educational interventions about empathy, leaning strategies about empathy were divided into two categories as \"cognitive learning\" and \"skills learning\".
