Assuming the distinction between positive objects and quantified objects, it is shown by the investigation based on an OE corpus that quantified objects can appear before vP/VP adverbs, but not before discourse/temporal adverbs, while positive objects can precede both types of adverbs. Then, it is argued that quantified objects and positive objects move to [Spec, Foc(us)P] and [Spec, Top(ic)P], respectively, in the left periphery of the vP domain where Foc is sandwiched between two instances of Top. Finally, this paper touches upon the loss of the hierarchical structure of functional categories in the left periphery of the vP domain after Middle English, suggesting a separate cause for Top and Foc.}, pages = {71--88}, title = {古英語における目的語異動と左周縁部}, volume = {61}, year = {2015} }
