It has been made clear that the probability of fine discharge occurrence, which corresponds to radiation field pulse of large amplitude, after the occurrence of preceding one is maintained nearly constant at any instance, i.e., the successor occurs at random. In contrast to this the small pulses which are also superposed on the atmospherics during cloud discharges represent another character of pulse intervals, which is just the same as that of the step streamer intervals of stepped leaders except the nonexistence of lower limit as like that of the stepped leader streamer interval. From these facts it is proposed by the present authors the possibility that the small pulses on the wave form of cloud discharge correspond likely to β type stepped leader in and around thunderclouds, which has been reported to present itself more frequently than that of α type in South Africa. The multiple stroke intervals have been studied also by the same processes and the result is obtained to indicate that the probability of stroke occurrence is roughly maitained constant at any instance after the preceding stroke has occurred, i.e., every stroke represents itself at random one after another. The comparison has been made between the wave forms which can be cIassified as the wave form of cloud discharges and can be surmised further to originate from thunder-storms reported at various distances from the station.
