Last summer, direct comparisons concerning with the receiving frequency ranges and gains were made at Maebashi between eleven devices of various types designed for the lightning flash counters. Sufficient data on restricting the counting radii within 20km recommended in C.C.I.R. were not yet obtained, but several results suggested that instruments responding to a suitable frequency range and gain, especially a wide band of frequencies in the VLF range, could be possible to restrict within 20km.
