Those include meter-sized blocks of medium-grained feldspathic arenite from Ueno-Kouzu and coarse-grained hornblende biotite granodiorite from the coast of Mikawa Bay, which are remains of materials for the stone wall of Nagoya Castle constructed in 1610. Historical documents recorded that a huge number, over a hundred thousand, of rocks were transported by ships from the quarries to Atsuta-Shore, about 7.5km south of Nagoya Castle. Tsuruma Park, opened in 1909, locates ca. 3 km south of Nagoya Castle. The park site was reclaimed from low-land paddy fields with dredged sands from the Shojin-gawa (Shojin River) during its improvement into the Shin-Horikawa (New Canal).
