 note = {Foreword. I have studied social and economic character of the Jiangnan 江南 province and Fujian 福建 province in Ming-qing 明清 dynasties since 1960s. In this article, I tried to analyze the historical development of Henan 河南 province in early Qing for the first time. First, I attempted to make clear the demographic situation of inhabitants and the distribution of farmland in Henan province. What I focused next is the formation of the network of transportation, information and finance in Henan and its role for the economic development of the region. In the next chapter, I emphasized the role of government to maintain public peace supported by tax collection in the south region of Henan. The fourth point I focused on is the governmental policy for the improvement of the moral and intellectual condition of the people, especially the prohibition of maltreatment of slaves. The construction of water supply facilities in the south region in Henan also contributed to ameliorate the living environment of the region. 
Conclusion. The social and economic characteristics of Henan had many differences from Jiangnan and Fujian province. But the most part of the south area of Henan province had similar patterns with Jiangnan and Fujian province in its social development. We need to study these points accurately along with my theory concerning the local community and with the recent achievements of other historians.},
