This period is difficult to calibrate calendar years from radiocarbon (14C) ages, but the correct age can be obtained by applying 14C wiggle-matching. In this study, five tree trunk samples (samples A to E) were collected from three locations at the eastern foot of the Shinmoedake. Annual rings were cut out from sample E into single-year rings and conducted 14C measurement using accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS). To obtain accurate age for the Kyoho eruption, wiggle-matching technique was applied with computer program OxCal 4.4.2.
