 note = {The elements of zhiguai (志怪: strange writing) in the Wei and the Jin dynasties did not concern with those of wuxingzhi (五行志: treaties on the five elements). The zhiguai is a collection of personal strange phenomena, while wuxingzhi recorded incidents concerning the fate of dynasties. Nonetheless, there are two books in the Sui and Tang dynasties with titles that include the word wuxing, and they also recorded the incidents mentioned in the wuxingzhi: Wuxingji (五行記: Five Elements Accidents) and Guang Gujin Wuxingji (廣古今五行記: The Wide Records of Five Elements Accidents Occurred in the Past and Modern). Both Wuxingji and Guang Gujin Wuxingji have already been lost, and the remaining articles are found in the category book. The overlap between these two books and successive wuxingzhi is about 15%, but the overlapping content does not reflect all the contents of wuxingzhi. Although the recorded disasters in wuxingzhi have interpretations, these two books only quote the interpretations from the original source. Only two articles have the original interpretations, and the interpreted texts in these articles seem to be the contents of popular divination books. Guang Gujin Wuxingji also has a few articles on Buddhist karma. These articles, however, do not specifically dwell on Buddhism; rather they are grouped together just as traditional Chinese retaliation cases. Buddhism had a big influence on society during the Sui and the Tang dynasties. Guang Gujin Wuxingji was also influenced by Buddhism, but the author of this book was not Buddhist, and the book was probably intended to link their articles with divination in popular society. This study analyzes the differences between these two books and wuxingzhi and considers the characteristics of Guang Gujin Wuxingji from the perspective of the Buddhist karma articles in these texts.},
