This is because they focus on technical intern trainees, who are low-income group and are not given right to decide the length of their stay, highly skilled professionals and foreign students, who are highly mobile, and those who come to Japan through international marriages. The lives of last group members are influenced by the income and connections of their marriage partners. However, there are not specialized studies on middle-class Chinese immigrants. The figure of middle-class Chinese immigrants has not been revealed. For this reason, this paper focuses on Chinese restaurant owners with "technical" status of residence, who fall into in the category of the this middle class. Like the technical intern trainees, they are not highly educated, but they are able to stay in Japan on their own volition because of their skills, in other words, because they have a job in their hands. Therefore, by analyzing their reasons for coming to Japan and the actual conditions of their stay in Japan, it is possible to reveal a previously unexplored segment of the Japanese immigrant population. From this survey, it became clear that the owners of Chinese restaurants, even those who have been in Japan for several decades, have little Japanese language ability and relationships with the influx of people, i.e., with Japanese people. However, these problems they are facing reveal that they are involved with other Chinese immigrants, building networks, and that Chinese restaurants are one of the nexus points for Chinese immigrants. In order to clarify these issues, this paper analyzes the current state of Chinese-restaurant owners in the Tokai region of Japan through interviews. Then, from the background of their arrival in Japan and the process of running their current restaurants, we clarified the nature of their networks for emigrating and the actual state of their settlement in this country.}, pages = {119--134}, title = {中国人移住者の中間層に関する研究 : 東海地域の中華料理店店主を中心に}, volume = {6}, year = {2023} }
