The data was obtained from 173 freshmen belonging to the school of law at Nagoya University through questionnaire, which included items concerning motives for participation to physical education class, condition of health and physical fitness, perceived motor ability, expected future sport behavior, and perceived effect of physical education class. The main results were as follows, and these results were discussed from the viewpoint of the lifelong sport. 1) 92% of the students in the school participated in the physical education class although it was elective. And 73% of the subjects thought that physical education class was necessary in university curriculum. 2) The major reason for participation was to improve health and physical fitness. 3) 70% of the subjects indicated that they were interested in condition of health, but half of subjects had negative cognition toward their future physical activity.
