The following results were obtained : 1) Plasma glucose concentration at any given time-point after administering the barley load was lower than that of the rice load in diabetics. 2) Total area under the tolerance curve of barley was smaller than that of rice or glucose in diabetics. 3) Total area under the insulin response curve of the barley load was smaller than that of the rice or glucose load in healthy subjects.
