Rohrer indexes of 925 pupils in 8 elementary schools and 1463 students in junior high schools in Nagoya City were investigated longitudinally. The following results were obtained. 1) Among 925 elementary school children, 90 (9.7%) pupils were obese (Rohrer index over 145). The percentage or severely obese (Rohrer index ≧ 160) group at the first grade of elementary school was higher in the severely obese pupils at sixth grade of elementary school than in the mildly (Rohrer index 145 ≦ , 160 \u003e ) obese group at 6th grade. 2) Among 1463 junior high school boys and girls, 124 (8.4 %) students were obese (Rohrer index over 145). The percentage of severely obese children at sixth grade (p \u003c 0.001) and first grade (p \u003c 0.005) of elementary school were significantly higher in severely obese boys and girls at the third grade of junior high school than in mildly obese students at the same grade.
