Minute ventilation (VE) and alveolar CO2 pressure (PACO2) during rebreathing were continuously recorded with respirometer and an infrared CO2 analyzer, respectively. The relationship between PACO2 and VE are represented by the least-squares method as follows: VE = S (PACO2 - B), where S is the slope of the line expressed as change in ventilation per unit change in PACO2.
