| 内容記述 | Previous studies in medicine and nursing have referred to body image when discussing appearance issues caused because of surgical scars. By contrast to this approach, this paper examines the implications of referring to stigma theory rather than body image. The research is a comprehensive review of medical and nursing studies on surgical scars and body image from the perspective of stigma theory. What has been illuminated is that sociological studies on surgical scars and stigma enable consideration of the interaction process, identity management, and the relationship to an illness and its medical history. This paper emphasizes that consideration of these points may deepen and develop the existing discussion related to body image in the aftermath of surgery. | |||||||||
