| 内容記述 | In 1960, following the April Revolution in South Korea which led to the fall of the military dictatorship, momentum for democratization and unification emerged in both North and South Korea. In response, the Korean community in Japan saw various individuals from both the Mindan (Korean Residents Union in Japan) and the Chongryon (General Association of Korean Residents in Japan) engaging in public exchanges. The literary magazine “HAKUYO” (1958-1964, total of 27 issues), led by the literary figure Sun CHOI, representing the Mindan, played a key role in providing a “platform” for exchange between cultural figures from both organizations. However, no research has yet fully clarified the full picture and significance of this magazine. This paper first analyzes the background of Sun CHOI, the circumstances surrounding the founding of “HAKUYO,” its policies, and its content layout. It confirms that the magazine was consistently operated based on the principles of freedom and democracy guaranteed by the South Korean constitution, and therefore inevitably came into conflict with the South Korean military dictatorship and Mindan, which followed it. Building on this, the paper examines the political tensions between Mindan and the like-minded individuals of “HAKUYO” by focusing on key events that revealed these tensions. These events include the joint cultural festival held in 1961, the discussion panel featuring Chongryon literary figures in the magazine in 1958, and the HAKUYO cultural festival held after the May 16 military coup in 1961. Through these, it demonstrates that “HAKUYO” was an exceptionally rare magazine that transcended political positions to materialize what “peaceful unification” means and what a “unified Korea” would look like for those seeking unification through its pages and cultural festivals, giving tangible reality to the ideal of “unification.” This demonstrates the recognition of the significant political and literary roles played by “HAKUYO” and its contemporary significance. | |||||||||
