| 内容記述 | The purpose of this study is to clarify the current perception and speech perception boundaries of both bilabial plosives /b/ and /p/ (hereafter referred to as BP) and alveolar plosives /d/ and /t/ (hereafter referred to as DT) among Southern Min, Japanese, and Mandarin speakers, using Voice Onset Time (VOT) as a cue for speech perception. Southern Min has three types of plosives: voiced, voiceless unaspirated, and voiceless aspirated. This system is different from that of Japanese, which contrasts by voice, and Mandarin, which contrasts by aspiration. In this study, a categorical perception experiment was conducted with 37 participants (15 Japanese speakers, 12 Southern Min speakers, and 10 Mandarin speakers) to investigate the perception of plosives by Southern Min speakers in comparison with Japanese and Mandarin speakers. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, an online experiment was used instead of face-to-face experiments, which included both identification and discrimination tasks for speech perception. However, this paper reports only the results of the identification task. Based on the results of the identification task, Logistic regression analysis was used to determine the perception boundaries for each group, and a comparative analysis was conducted to examine the differences between speakers and the results obtained from previous studies. In the BP identification task, the categorical boundary of Southern Min appeared in approximately the same position as in Mandarin. However, the results of the DT identification task showed that Southern Min speakers were more likely than speakers of Mandarin Chinese and Japanese to respond [t] for the −VOT stimulus, suggesting that Southern Min speakers may confuse [d] with other speech sounds such as [n] and [l] in listening. To validate the above hypotheses, it is considered necessary to conduct a speech production investigation, particularly focusing on the consonants with the same articulation position as discussed in the main text, based on the results of the current speech perception experiment. | |||||||||
