| 内容記述 | Following the Meiji Restoration, Japan emphasized the "good wife, wise mother" ideal, where women's roles in the household were paramount. Women were expected to maintain healthy bodies and minds, give birth to healthy children, and educate them as proper citizens. Young female writers in the Taishō era, like Shiraki Shizu, navigated these notions while highlighting disabled bodies. Despite studies on the intersection of gender and disability, the study of motherhood in Shizu’s works remains underexplored. As Shizu transitioned from a young woman to a wife and mother, her themes evolved to reflect her new identities. This paper examines Shizu’s writings on disabled motherhood, expressing her ambivalence and selfimage concerns. It focuses on how the intersection of disability and gender, particularly in the context of motherhood, illuminates the complexities of gender roles and the experiences of disabled women. By analyzing Shizu’s depiction of maternal self-hood, this study aims to deepen the understanding of her literature. | |||||||||
