| 内容記述 | The present installment provides with an introduction to an annotated translation of the Sanskrit text named the “Non-cognition Chapter” (Anupalabdhivāda). This chapter deals with Gaṅgeśa’s criticism against the Bhaṭṭa Mīmāṃsā school, which takes non-cognition (anupalabdhi) as a specific means for acquiring cognition of absence (abhāva). This introduction consists of the two sections. The first section gives a summary of the chapter, the versions of the Sanskrit text used and its commentaries, and the previous translations and research on the text; and the second gives an analysis of the fundamental technical terms which are employed or assumed in that chapter. They are: entities (padārtha) and the specific means for acquiring cognition (pramāṇa), the connection between a sense organ and its object (saṃnikarṣa), qualificative cognition (viśiṣṭabuddhi) whose object is constituted by the qualifier (viśeṣaṇa), the qualificand (viśeṣya), and the relation between them (sambandha / saṃsarga), direct cognition (sākṣātkārin) and indirect one (aparokṣa), and absence in retrospection (prāṅnāstitā). The second and third installments which follow the present one will present the annotated translation of the major objection part (pūrvapakṣa) to Gaṅgeśa’s school, Navya-nyāya, and his final view (uttarapakṣa) respectively. | |||||||||
