| 内容記述 | The purpose of this study was to clarify (1) how university faculty and staff perceive international students, and (2) whether the perceptions of international students differ depending on the type of function of the institution. For these purposes, 16 university faculty and staff members from six universities in Washington, D.C. were interviewed to investigate their stories about international students. Half of the six universities were Doctoral university 1(highest research activity) and the rest were Doctoral university 2(higher research activity). Interview analysis shows that faculty and staff members from different groups of universities tend to recognize international students in different ways. Doctoral university 1 personnel appreciate the traditional proportions of internationalization, such as researcher training, diplomatic benefits, and income generation. In contrast, Doctoral university 2 personnel put high value on diversifying classrooms for the development of American students. These results suggest that Doctoral university 2 are more affected by pressure from society focused on globalization. | |||||||||
