Manganese pernitride (MnN2) was synthesized at a pressure of approximately 60 GPa and a temperature of approximately 2000 K for the first time. A phase transition between rhombohedral and triclinic symmetry associated with the alignment of the N2 dimer was also clearly observed at high temperatures under high pressure or along the decompression process at room temperature. The present experimental results with DFT calculations offer new insights and diversity into the crystal chemistry of the transition metal pernitrides concerning temperature and pressure. |
