| 内容記述 | The sacrifices of the Himeyuri Student Corps became widely known immediately after the end of the Asia-Pacific War, and became subjects for poetry, novels, films. Nakasone Seizen, concerned that the experiences of the Himeyuri Student Corps were being romanticized as tragedy and that the facts were being misrepresented, compiled his own memoir with those of surviving students. He published it as Okinawa no Higeki: Himeyuri no Tō o Meguru Hitobito-no-Syuki (Kachō Shobō, 1951). While Himeyuri no Tō o Meguru Hitobito-no-Syuki forms the core record concerning the Himeyuri Student Corps, it begins with Nakasone’s account dated March 24, 1945, immediately after mobilization was decided, and contains few descriptions of school life prior to that date. Therefore, this paper also refers to individual memoirs written by surviving students and publications from the Himeyuri Peace Memorial Museum as appropriate. The diaries concerning the Himeyuri Student Corps are written in standard Japanese, making it difficult to find “dialect” within them. However, when the Himeyuri Student Corps is represented in films or novels, Ryukyuan folk songs, Ryuka, and “dialect” are actively incorporated. Taking this discrepancy into account, this paper will compare the words and songs mentioned in the memoirs about the Himeyuri Student Corps with the words and songs used when the corps is represented in films and novels. It will examine what gets left out when describing war experiences and how representations have attempted to supplement and convey the thoughts not expressed in the memoirs. | |||||||||
