| 内容記述 | The Mao Zedong statue was initially created by Wang Keping, Ai Weiwei, and Wang Guangyi as a bridge to primitive art. After functioning as a critique of Mao Zedong and the dictatorial regime, it merged into Pop Art. Subsequently, artists like Sui Jianguo, Shi Xinning, and Yue Minjun freely deformed, added to, and removed parts of the Mao statue. The Gao Brothers transcended both the shifting evaluation of Mao--oscillating between regime criticism and sanctification for political gain--and the homogenization imposed by ideology. They placed the Mao statue, or indeed modern Chinese culture itself, on the table for debate. This shares an orientation toward altermodernity that emerged through postmodernism. It traverses borders, wandering and adventuring through different eras, translating and reassembling their materials, images, and symbols. Emperor Makikurian, Christ, Mao Zedong. It seeks to generate an endless process of negotiation/translation through their differences, diversification, and hybridization. It explores new forms and relationships in the present. | |||||||||
