| 内容記述 | This article attempts to reveal the relationship between Tanizaki Jun’ichirō’s Yoshino kuzu (Arrowroot, 1931) and mass media by analyzing it from the perspective of recitation. Poetry recitation broadcasts began at the Osaka Broadcasting Station of NHK (JOBK) in the 1930s evolved during the Asia-Pacific War into broadcasts of war poetry that served to propagate the ideology of national unity. “Rōdoku bungaku” (recitation literature) emerged in the 1940s as one of the genres that arose from this movement. In 1943, “Kami o Suku Ie--Yoshino Kuzu Yori,” retitled and revised from Yoshino kuzu, was included in Rōdoku Bungakusen, an anthology of “Rōdoku bungaku,” edited by the Cultural Department of the Imperial Rule Assistance Association. Previous studies have examined Yoshino kuzu in the context of “Koten kaiki.” “Koten kaiki” refers to the practice of quoting premodern works or incorporating their images into a text, and the early 1930s are widely considered as Tanizaki’s “Koten kaiki” period. Issues of sound, especially those related to the use of “Ongyoku” (songs accompanied by the shamisen) that appears in the text, have tended to be interpreted almost exclusively within the framework of “Koten kaiki.” However, the historical fact mentioned above that Yoshino kuzu was reproduced as a form of “Rōdoku bungaku” in the 1940s has been overlooked in such discussions. Re-examining Yoshino kuzu in terms of recitation is essential both for the study of “Rōdoku bungaku” and for understanding the relationship between literature and mass media during wartime. Therefore, this article compares the novel version of the text with “Kami o Suku Ie--Yoshino Kuzu Yori” and seeks to clarify the characteristics of Yoshino kuzu as wartime “Rōdoku bungaku.” | |||||||||
